Roulette is fun to play, but the entertainment value of the game depends on the knowledge of the player in betting. Betting is one of the most important concepts in a game of roulette. And because roulette is a game of chance, the only substantial thing you can turn to is studying the odds and the payout is one of the better shots you have in playing better roulette.
There are two general kinds of bets depending on where you place your wagers in the table, namely inside bets and outside bets. All in all, you have about nine ways of betting, each with its own payout and odds of winning.
Inside Bets
There are six kinds of inside bets that roulette players can opt to put wagers on – the straight, split, street, square, five-line and six-line bets. Generally, the inside bets provide the biggest payout on the game, albeit they also give the least odds of winning in the game. Inside bets are made by placing the bets in a particular manner inside the grid.
Straight is a type of wager made on a single number. Placing the bet squarely inside the numbered grid makes straight bets. It pays 35 for every unit of bets.
Split is a bet on two numbers. Players can execute a split bet by placing the wager on the line that separates the two numbers. It pays players 17 for every one unit worth of bets.
Street bets is also known as the three number bet. This bet is executed by placing chip/s on the line found at the row’s end. It pays 11 to one.
Corner bets are bets made on four adjacent numbers. It pays eight to one and is made placing bets at the junction of the four numbers.
Five-liner is a special bet found only in American Roulette. It is a bet made on the numbers 00, 0, 1, 2 and 3. It is executed by placing bets on the intersection of 0, 00 and 2. It pays six units for every unit of bet.
Six-Liner or Liner bets are bets on two rows of numbers, and it is executed by placing bets on he end of the line dividing separating the two rows. It pays five to one.
Outside Bets
Outside bets lack the winnings that the inside bets, but they compensate with relatively bigger odds compared to their counterparts. There are three kinds of outside bets, namely column, dozen and even-money bets.
Column Bets are bets made on a particular column of numbers on the table. It is made by placing the bet on the space provided at the column’s bottom. It pays two to one.
Dozens bets are bets made on one of the three dozens in the game, namely 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 36. Bets are placed in the corresponding regions of the table. Like column bets, dozen bets pays two to one.
There are three varieties of even-money bets – the high/low, the red/black and the odd/even. Like other outside bets, wagers are placed on the space provided for them. As the name implies, even-money bets pays even money, one is to one.
